Creative direction and design for the experiential art and tech collaboration between Childish Gambino and the Google Pixel 3 at Coachella 2019.

Brighter In The Dark was a temple of sight and sound. Both an art installation and brand activation creating an immersive one of a kind experience soundtracked by Childish Gambino.

  • As a creative director at the team at Google and collaborating with external design and creative partners we developed a single pyramid cut in two that creates two unique spaces made of shiny and matte black high-end materials, referencing the pixel phone product texture.

    The first pyramid's entrance is a large LED screen which content I designed and creative directed. The black and white nature imagery combined with color gradients are a conceptual and poetic interpretation of its function and a reference to Gambino's light show.

    Sound. One half of the pyramid is about merging acrylic with transducers to create ethereal suspended sheets of sound. The result is the deepest immersive experience into Childish Gambino's music sounds.

    Sight. The other half uses a laser beam at its center, coming from up high creates a connection between Donald Glover’s and his live tour show, pure light. The laser is surrounded by reflective black water adding depth and supporting the black reflective look of the exterior.

    There is a portal within each pyramid that serves as visual device to represent an open door to the actual space. I design directed the content on them.

    Identity. I designed and directed the installation’s visual identity, the collateral branding and the teaser film. Which was the key visual of communication on Google, Coachella and Gambino's social media channels.
